The power is out on campus again this afternoon. Therefore all volleyball games have been canceled. Hoping for a better day tomorrow!
Due to today’s power outage, Big Sandy ISD will cancel school for the remainder of the day. If your student came to school, we will contact you personally to pick them up. All bus riders who had guardians at home have been dropped off.
All extracurricular activities scheduled for this evening are still on as a planned.
Thank you for your patience the last two days as we have dealt with some irregular issues in our district.
The Administrative team and Transportation Department at Big Sandy ISD will continue to monitor the weather and road conditions throughout the evening and into the early morning hours. If the need arises to adjust the school day, we will announce the news on our Facebook page, website and text messaging system. Student safety is the most important factor in making decisions regarding the school day.
Today, the district was alerted of a possible tornado in the Big Sandy area. Out of an abundance of caution, the district went into a tornado lockdown. At 11:00 am, we were given the all clear and students returned to their classes. Thank you to all of our staff and administrators for keeping our kids safe. We will continue to monitor the weather today and alert you if anything else occurs. Thanks for trusting us with your children.
This summer, we are teaming with Love Big Sandy Project to provide school supplies for kids. Help us get the word out so all of our kids have what they need to start the year! Let's tell everyone to "Stuff The Bus" that is parked out in the front of the high school gym with school supplies.
Just a reminder - All offices will be closed for the week of July 5th - 9th. We will be back in the offices on Monday, July 12th.

Families, thank you for your partnership this year. As you know, our students took the STAAR tests earlier this spring. The STAAR is one of many ways to measure student learning. It will help schools and teachers better understand where students may have gaps from the disruptions to learning caused by the pandemic. Teachers will use STAAR results along with other information to co-create learning plans with families to jumpstart learning next year.
Scores are available on different dates according to the grade and subject tested.
Spring STAAR EOCs (grades 9-12) are available now.
Grades 5 and 8 STAAR Math/Reading ONLY are available starting today, June 21, 2021.
Grades 3-8 STAAR will be available on June 28, 2021.
Summer STAAR EOC Retests will be available on July 30, 2021.
You will be able to access your child’s STAAR results via the www.TexasAssessment.com website. (Detailed instructions for login on next page.) This will take you directly to your child’s STAAR results, which will include detailed breakdowns in each subject, identifying your child’s strengths as well as areas where they may need additional support. Parents have shared that seeing which questions their child got incorrect has been the most useful. You will also see easy to use resources that can be used at home over the remainder of the summer focused on the skills your child needs the most support with.
We expect STAAR scores will likely be lower for many students this year. So many of them have experienced trauma and loss in addition to the disruption in classroom instruction. You can help ease stress by letting your child know that this year, STAAR is only meant to help teachers and parents better support their learning.
The partnership between families and schools has never been more important. We encourage you to log in and learn more anytime after your student’s scores are available. Use this information along with your own observations from the past year and your child’s grades to create a learning plan with teachers in the fall to help your child succeed.
Thank you for your partnership! We wish you and your family a healthy and restful summer.
